Apps and parx

parx

The Parallel programming agent, in your terminal. Mac, Windows, and Linux, in eight languages.

parx is an agent that works in your project folder from the terminal: it reads the code, changes it, runs commands, and shows you every change. Parallel’s AI runs on our servers and each task is charged in Actions from your account.

Never used the terminal? Start with the terminal guide for beginners.

What you need

  • Mac, Windows (PowerShell or cmd), or Linux.
  • Node.js 20 or newer.
  • A Parallel account with Actions.

bash
parx login

parx asks how you want to log in:

  1. With the browser (recommended). parx opens getparallel.net with a one-time code, for example BCDF-GHJK. You verify the code and computer name are yours and click Approve. The code expires after 10 minutes.
  2. With an API key. You create it in Parallel, under Settings → parx in the terminal, and paste it. The key is shown only once. It’s for servers or continuous integration: you can also set it in the PARALLEL_API_KEY variable without saving anything on disk.
  3. Without a browser on that computer (for example, via SSH). parx shows a short link, the code, and a QR to open it on your phone.

Browser sessions last 90 days and renew with use.

  • parx cuenta: who you are, your plan, your Actions, and how you logged in.
  • parx logout: logs out on this computer.
  • parx logout --todas: logs out on all your terminals. API keys remain active: revoke them in Settings → parx in the terminal, where you also see each connected terminal.

How to use it

Go to your project folder and type:

bash
parx

A session opens: type what you want and parx does it. For a single task without a session:

bash
parx "add validation to the contact form"

After each task, it tells you how much it spent: ✓ Done · N Actions · N s · X Actions available.

Modes

ModeWhat it does
preguntar (default)Asks permission for each command and file change, showing the change. You answer 1 yes, 2 yes and don’t ask again this session, 3 no.
autoWorks alone inside the project. Shift+Tab switches mode during the session. Risky commands and anything outside the project still ask.
leerRead-only. Doesn’t change anything.

Models

Choose how much Parallel’s AI thinks for each task:

ModelFor
rapido (Fast)Simple tasks. Uses fewer Actions.
potente (Powerful)Default. For almost everything.
maximo (Maximum)Hardest tasks. Uses the most Actions.

What it never touches

In any mode, parx doesn’t read or write credential files: .env (except templates like .env.example), SSH keys, .npmrc, .ssh, .aws, .kube, .docker, .vercel, .supabase, keychains, and .pem files.

Risky commands always ask, even in auto mode: sudo, rm -rf, git push, git reset --hard, publishing packages, global installs, curl | sh, ssh, deployments, and similar.

If you don’t like something, /deshacer reverts the last file change.

Project instructions

If your project has a PARALLEL.md or AGENTS.md file, parx reads it at start: put how to test, style, or what not to touch there.

Cost

Each task is a step and charged once, in Actions, based on what it really cost (minimum 1). Before each call your balance is checked: if you run out of Actions, parx tells you and takes you to buy more or upgrade your plan.

All commands are in parx commands.
